Pino Palladino & Friends 14/10/24
As soon as I saw this little post by Cardiff council I launched myself into action! Looking at rearranging my schedule, my students & home life to be able to see the mighty, Pino Palladino.
Unbeknownst to me, from an early age I had been listeneing to Pino in all aspects of my music intake. From studying bass & becoming a professional player there is not another player that has influenced my playing & litening as much as him.
Hosted at The Royal Welsh College Of Music & Drama I roped an artist who I work with (who is obsessed with his playing with D'Angello) Charlie J & we went!
The awesome force of seeing him in his home town surrounded by like minded bass players, muso's, family, friends & the most receptive crowd I have ever seen was an awe to see.
Isaiah Sharkey & Chris Dave. The literal best of the best. Obviously I was there for Pino but thee two musicians at the top of the tree, so inovative & geniuses of music complemented to the playing of eachother fully. This resulted in the longest aplause I have ever encountered at a live show.
The interview & Q&A was a great insight, especially Pino's family & friends chiming in with little anecdotes. Including John "Mugsy" Monroe a stalwart of the Cardif music scene & the drummer in Pino's first band, who I was in a band called Tupelo Highway with for a while!
Meeting Pino afterwards while he was surrounded by friends, fans & family was great. Such a humble & genuinely nice person. Reluctane not to sign my scratchplate (100% understabdable) after seeing my Soulquarians T-Shirt he very graciously cganged his mind & this has now been put back on my gold P and I will treasure forever.
After being a bit disheartned with my playing & music as my profession this has really helped to push me firther & get myself back into the swing of things!
Got a few pics but I wont post videos on here of the performace but a once in a lifetime show from the GOAT.
